I have had the opportunity to dine in a wide variety of restaurants and must say that our recent (first) visit to El Andariego was among our most enjoyable dining experiences! The initial basis for deciding to eat there was primarily its location (Ashton, MD), as we live in Montgomery County and were getting together with friends who live in Howard County; however, we would now recommend it as a worthy destination of its own!
The fun, comfortable environment, along with live music and attentive service, allowed us to enjoy our meal for an extended period of time and have a private conversation. However, as with any restaurant, in the end, it all comes down to the food; and that is where El Andariego really earns its high marks!
Having visited El Salvador, I was familiar with authentic food and had high standards. The menu offers a nice variety of beef, seafood, chicken, pork and vegetarian appetizers/entrees, with each being unique in their preparation, taste and presentation. In addition, owner Consuelo Molina is known for his personal attention to guests, as demonstrated by his visit to our table during the meal to ensure everything was great, along with holding the door for us upon departure.
El Andariego is a wonderful place to visit when one wants to step away from the fast-paced, hurried world and enjoy great food at a reasonable price, which is why we can't wait to return soon and enjoy another memorable meal!
We recently moved out of state and can’t find good Salvadoran food anywhere here! As a result, we requested pupusas and tamales as well as the amazing salsa from El Andriego when our family came from MD to visit us - they traveled 500 miles to bring us pupusas, tamales, and salsa! The food here is outstanding and the owners and staff are wonderful!! El Andriego is the go to spot for great food and company!
We went for a quick lunch before going to the Theatre at Olney today. We wanted something nice, tasty and filling and we came upon this restaurant. We are thrilled! The food selection (for one vegetarian and one omnivore) was great and the prices good. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, the salsa was amazing and the chicken enchiladas are better than anywhere else. We loved the coffee (one of us who grew up on Viennese Coffee, and is quite picky about the subject), and would absolutely recommend going to El Andariego especially for this. We had the chocolate cake that came with a dollop of what tasted like home-made vanilla ice-cream on top that made it extra special. We were very satisfied and will definitely come back and recommend it highly especially to those headed to Olney Theatre or back.
This restaurant gets 10 stars in my book! The food is great tasty. My favorites dishes are “El Pancho Villa” the “Chicken Quesadilla” and the “Fajitas” of course. The place is nice and clean, but what makes it very special is the staff and owners Cristina and Jaime, who greet everyone as is you are a member of the family. This restaurant is family-oriented and prices are very reasonable. If you like Mexican food, this place is worth a visit and an entry in your A-list.
Thank you again for another delightful evening. The meal was beautiful and delicious and paired very nicely with the wines. You and your staff are always so warm and welcoming.....a true "neighborhood gem."
Cheers! Steve and Diane Campbell
We LOVE this place. The food is great, the service is great, and the owners are awesome!
El Andariego, Ashton, MD (near Olney) is a Mexican and Salvadorean restaurant and I don’t know when I’ve had a more satisfying dinner. I love Mexican food and what I found at El Andariego was the best I’ve had in 30 years. I’m crazy about enchiladas (when they’re done right) and these soft corn tortillas, filled with chicken, cheese or beef , covered with a sumptuous enchilada sauce were delicious. I wasn’t familiar with Salvadorean food, but boy did I get an introduction with a combination platter of papusas, corn tamal, yuca, plaintains and frijoles, beautifully cooked and presented. Everything was so good I thought maybe there were a dozen grandmothers in the kitchen cooking for their families. And, I don’t want to forget the Margaritas and the desserts. The Margaritas are freshly made and you can have the traditional or some with different flavors and different tequilas. The desserts, like everything else including the nacho chips, are homemade….the flan and sopapillas were perfection. The owners of El Andariego are a charming and hospitable couple, Jaime and Christina Vasquez, originally from El Savadore. They opened the restaurant about 10 years ago in the small, country-like town of Ashton, MD, just about 10 minutes off Old Sandy Spring Rd., off Georgia Avenue in Olney, MD. Believe me folks, it’s worth the drive. El Andariego is open seven days a week. For more information, reservations and directions, call 301-260-8199 and check their website at www.elandariego.net. They will also be on my website at www.richmassabny.com and my blog at www.richmassabnyreviews.blogspot.com.
We have been going to El Andariego since it was half the size it is now and have always loved it. It has been a great addition to Ashton. We dine in and carry out as often as possible. They are also an integral part of the community supporting local events and the local schools. Thanks for bringing great food and great friends to our neighborhood.
English Translation: It's a great restaurant, the food is first-rate, I have personally tried the entire menu and there's not a single dish I didn't like. They have special dishes not on the menu that should be included. The service is friendly and fast, especially the owners (Jaime and Cristina). It is excellent with a family atmosphere that invites you to come back. On Fridays there is live music by a versatile group with popular Latinamerican and Amercian music. I recommend making a reservation, especially on Fridays.
My husband and I recently went to El Andariego for dinner. This restaurant is a diamond of a find. The ambiance is warm and inviting, as are the owners. As you walk in, you receive a warm personal greeting. The wait staff is quick, efficient and they anticipate your every need. The food was AMAZING! I just can't say enough about it. I didn't even wait till I got home to call my friends and family to let them know what a charming evening this was. You can tell that the chef has very high-end experience. From the appetizer, to the meal, to the dessert - it was a celebration!
